iMotions License Options

iMotions offers several license types designed to support different research workflows, from full multimodal lab environments to remote analysis and educational use.

Each license provides access to specific capabilities depending on whether the goal is data collection, analysis, study design, or teaching.

Below is an overview of the available iMotions licenses.

Full iMotions Lab License (iMotions Lab)

The Full iMotions Lab License provides the complete research environment for designing studies, collecting multimodal data, synchronizing sensors, and performing advanced analysis.

It is the central license used for running behavioral research in controlled environments, integrating biometric sensors, and managing participant sessions.

Key capabilities

• Advanced study design: Create complex experimental setups including within-subject, between-subject, block, and randomized designs.
• Flexible stimulus presentation: Present images, videos, live websites, surveys, software interfaces, games, mobile apps, VR, and AR environments.
• Multimodal data collection: Collect synchronized behavioral and physiological data from multiple sensors during live participant sessions.
• Live monitoring: Observe participant responses in real time, including video feeds and biometric signals.
• Behavioral markup: Create live or post-processing annotations and event markers for precise behavioral labeling.
• Integrated analysis: Analyze synchronized data streams using automated metrics and visualization tools.
• Open research ecosystem: Import external data streams and integrate with external hardware through TTL triggers, LSL (Lab Streaming Layer), and custom integrations.
• Export flexibility: Export raw data, summary metrics, and visualizations for further statistical analysis.

iMotions Analysis-Only License (iMotions Lab)

The iMotions Analysis-Only License enables researchers to create studies and analyze collected data without running participant sessions.

It is designed for distributed research teams that need access to analysis tools without requiring additional full lab licenses.

This license is commonly used by collaborators, data analysts, or researchers working remotely.

Key capabilities

• Full analysis environment: Access the complete iMotions analysis interface for reviewing and interpreting collected data.
• Study creation: Build and preview experimental studies that can later be executed using an iMotions Core system.
• Remote collaboration: Perform analysis tasks remotely without occupying a primary data collection workstation.

iMotions Student License Bundle (iMotions Lab)

The iMotions Student License Bundle is designed for universities and research labs that teach behavioral research methods.

It allows students to design experiments and analyze data without occupying the main lab system used for participant data collection.

Each bundle includes 5 transferable licenses that can be distributed across students.

Key capabilities

• Student-friendly study setup: Students can design and prepare studies independently from the main lab system.
• Data analysis training: Analyze research data using the same iMotions tools used in professional research environments.

iMotions Education License (iMotions Online)

The iMotions Education License unlocks a classroom-ready version of the browser-based iMotions Education platform, that allows students to conduct behavioral studies using webcam-based biometric tools directly in their browser.

This makes it possible to run classroom exercises, assignments, and student projects without requiring specialized laboratory hardware.

The license is sold per semester and supports courses of different sizes with packages that include 20, 50, or 100 participants.

Key capabilities

• Hands-on biometric research training: Students gain practical experience designing and running studies using behavioral metrics such as webcam eye tracking, facial expression analysis, and voice analysis.
• Browser-based study deployment: Studies run directly in the participant’s web browser, allowing students to conduct research remotely without installing software or requiring dedicated lab computers.
• Integrated study builder: Students and instructors can design experiments using images, videos, websites, and surveys within a guided study-building interface.
• Real-time analysis and visualization: Collected data can be analyzed directly in the platform using visualizations such as heatmaps, emotion graphs, and survey analytics.
