iMotions 5-Day Academy was hosted at Copenhagen Business School. Twenty-eight participants traveled to Copenhagen from across Europe and the United States to learn about behavioral research design and try out tools such as eye tracking, EEG, facial expression analysis, voice analysis, GSR, respiration, and ECG.

iMotions Academy Participants
Attendees varied significantly in their experience with iMotions; some were seasoned users while others were relatively new to the platform. Additionally, the group encompassed a diverse range of professional backgrounds, including both students and established professionals. Our discussions often reflected the generational differences in communication styles, technology usage, and strategies for selecting research topics, leading to many laughs and enriching conversations.
„The iMotions Academy was an incredibly valuable experience. The balance between theoretical insights and hands-on sessions helped me understand how to design and execute multimodal studies with confidence. I especially appreciated the openness of the team and the chance to connect with researchers from different fields. I left the training feeling inspired and well-prepared to apply iMotions in my own projects.”
– Celine Blettner, Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society
Hands-On, Collaborative Projects
An important part of iMotions Academy is the hands-on projects. Participants form groups and collaborate on determining a research question. The group collects and analyses data, then makes some slides on their findings and what they took away from their Academy experience, to present on the final day. This gives Attendees a chance to go through the whole process of research, make mistakes, collaborate, try new hardware, and think critically about their experimental design.

Group Project Highlights
Identifying Visual Patterns: Group 4
Two attendees who work in ophthalmology paired up and created a study in which they tracked the movement of the eye while participants tracked moving objects on a screen.

“Happy I had the chance to join IMotions Academy in Copenhagen, an inspiring and hands-on week focused on understanding human behavior through neuroscience and technology.
As a software engineer and researcher at Shamir Optical Industry, I wanted to deepen both my theoretical knowledge in neuroscience and my practical experience with the IMotions platform. The program exceeded all expectations.
I learned best practices for experimental design, how to build a complete experiment environment, and how to leverage IMotions’ powerful analysis tools to make sense of complex neuro-biological data. My favorite part was diving into eye-tracking and other biosensors, seeing firsthand how these technologies can reveal new insights about perception and behavior.
Beyond the content, the IMotions team and participants made the experience exceptional: collaborative, professional, and full of curiosity. I left Copenhagen inspired, equipped with new skills, and excited to apply what I’ve learned to future projects at Shamir.”
-Gil Lianni, Shamir Optical Industry Ltd.
Testing Website Usability and Clarity: Group 6
This group worked on testing usability and clarity of a website they were preparing to launch for their new company, Neurovantage. They set up an experiment using EEG, GSR, FEA, and Eye tracking to compare their page to a competitors’.
From these results, they implemented strategic changes on their website:
- To increase engagement, they divided the “Resources” part of the menu into “Insights” and “Case Stories”.
- UX testing revealed that people often navigated to the newsletter sign-up when they were trying to make inquiries, so they redesigned the contact and newsletter sections to be clearer.

- Participant feedback indicated that people wanted to know more about the company and the team behind it, so they divided the About section into a page about the company and a page about the team.

- To increased engagement, they added a context-related “Related Reading” section to the bottom of “The Process” page.
A Deep Dive into iMotions Signal Processing: Group 8
These participants already had experience in collecting and analyzing EEG data in iMotions and were working with intersubject synchronicity, frontal alpha asymmetry, and cognitive load. They came with many questions about EEG signal processing because they were considering changing hardware and wanted to see how comparable the results would be between different headsets.

By the end of the week, they had narrowed the knowledge gap within their team, facilitating more effective technical discussions.
“The iMotions course was super interesting and really fun. We had a great group, and no question was ever too much – everyone was encouraged to ask and explore. The iMotions team was very supportive and even shared extra info to help us out. My colleague and I were honestly a bit sad when it ended on Friday because we enjoyed it so much!”
-Naomi Barnas and Isabella Broers, Unravel Research
