Newest update: R-Notebooks

Our newest update with R-Notebooks combines signal processing algorithms and open access to the R-code itself to offer flexibility to adapt the R-code to the specific needs of individual users.  Check out our R-notebook video to learn more.

Currently, we have the following R-Notebook signal processing possibilities:

  • Galvanic Skin Response (GSR)
  • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Electrocardiography (ECG)
  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • All signals: Raw data aggregation

With your access to your customer portal, you can find further inspiration for study design and applications. If you have any questions please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.

How to process your data

Your collected data set can now be segmented accordingly to your defined groups for some spring cleaning!

We’ve also uploaded a variety of sample study files to the Help Center that you can play with for training or inspiration if you’re working remotely and need a data set to experiment with—now available to our iMotions customers.

Data segmentation

Respondent Segmentation

Once you have collected your data, you are able to begin your analysis. Here you have the opportunity to choose a certain respondent group based on various segmentation criteria.

For example, you can use the filter on the respondent panel to choose respondents based on Name, Age, Gender or even filter out respondents based on their signal quality. This allows you to compare across different groups as well as aggregating data based on filtered respondents based on xyz.

This helps you to compare and visualize your data across different groups. In iMotions, you can also filter for relevant stimuli or parts of your stimuli. For all your selections, you receive summary statistics and data visualizations.

Image processing and mapping

The main feature of our image processing is our Gaze Mapping procedure. This does two things:

1) Map eye tracking data collected with mobile eye tracking glasses onto static images of particular stimuli encountered during the recording.

2) Map eye tracking data collected from scene recordings of webpages or documents onto static images that represent the full page or document. This feature is needed when the size of the webpage or document exceeds the size of the screen.

For Gaze Mapping on recordings from mobile eye tracking glasses, websites or tablet testing, it can be convenient to import all reference images (e.g. pictures of your products or website captures) at the same time, and to start the processing of the pictures with one click for all respondents.

Signal Processing

iMotions Facial Expression Analysis allows you to post-process videos by performing automated facial coding on pre-recorded videos. This is a very useful feature for post-processing videos that were captured on devices that don’t have iMotions installed. Just make sure that faces are well illuminated and positioned well inside the camera’s range.

Data visualization:

A Heatmap is an aggregated metric that can only be done on static content. If you have dynamic content, such as a video, you will need to clip a fragment out in order to do a heatmap. This can be done through a few different methods, so iMotions customers should check the iMotions Help Center for either gaze mapping or scenes on how to create a fragment from dynamic content into a static image.

The built-in iMotions Survey capability provides flexible tools to design a questionnaire with images, likert scales, multiple choice or text input answers to triangulate participants’ stated answers with nonconscious responses from biosensors.

We hope this gives you some inspiration for your data set as well as future research. Remember all functions are also available in your full iMotions desktop license. Don’t forget all the detailed steps and information can be found in your customer portal at any time and our experts are here to help with any questions you may have.
